A Conservatory and Pollinator Garden
This project enhances a pre-Revolutionary Connecticut Colonial home with a new conservatory and thoughtfully designed garden improvements. The conservatory serves as an all-season retreat, offering a peaceful place to enjoy the surrounding landscape, share a morning coffee, or settle in with a good book while remaining connected to nature.
The landscape improvements include two new sets of retaining walls and stone steps, integrating the changes with the character of the historic property while improving access and circulation throughout the garden.
The planting scheme features a lush composition of perennials, shrubs, and trees, selected for both their ornamental qualities and their value to pollinators. Particular emphasis was placed on plants that attract a wide variety of beneficial insects, inviting the owners to observe the activity of bees, butterflies, and other visitors throughout the seasons.
Together, the conservatory and garden create a welcoming extension of the home—a place for quiet reflection, everyday enjoyment, and a closer connection to the natural world.
