High Meadow Farm, Mount Kisco, NY
The main house at High Meadow resembles a 19th century French country house, standing on a crest that overlooks a hundred acres of pine tree forests, formal gardens, meadows, outbuildings, a pool, tennis courts, a skating pond, an apple orchard, and more. Thirty-eight acres are devoted to plain grassy lawn. Since the house has a Norman character, the client envisioned French gardens, but with a “meadowy” feeling. Grubb’s challenge was to create multiple and diverse gardens with a French undertone, covering various sites on the estate, and, at the same time, to tie them all subtly together with paths, plantings and roadways.
