Description:
This bed is bordered by squared-off boxwood and filled with salvia victoria. An antique French pot in the center contains blooming gaura. “In the spring we replace the salvia with around 4,000 tulip bulbs set in a field of mixed flowers like Spanish bluebells. There are three different types of tulips, so they bloom in sequence,” Grubb says. “In October we replace the summer plants with lavendin, a form of lavender. Later, I move all the lavender to planting troughs, because lavender doesn’t like the local soil or the climate. But if you want a French look, you need lavender.”
